Prime minister Lee Hsien Loong, had tried apologizing to Singaporeans about the mistakes of the government. This was seen as a move to try and gain more votes for the PAP. They thought that by admitting their mistakes, people would forgive them, and hopefully see their ‘sincerity’. This way, people would regain confidence in them. However, I think likewise. If the PAP had apologized much earlier, I believe that people would definitely believe them. But now, they are apologizing, only after the opposition parties had tried to attack the government in those weak areas. Apologising only after the opposition had pointed out their mistake, seemed to give people the impression that the government is apologizing purely to garner votes for the election, and were not truly sincere in their apology. Thus, many people did not take it and did not vote for the PAP. This is al shown in the results of the general election, with the PAP losing a significant number of votes. Thus, I feel the PAP should reflect on their actions. It is not too late for them to try and learn from their mistakes and change for the better. They can still win its votes back the next general election. If they have the heart, they will definitely get what they rightly deserve.
